Golden Fez and the Art of Simply Existing
A moment in time in London is characterised by an almost serene stillness; a pint of lager warming on the table, nothing really having changed, yet all this surrounding you (including your concrete floor) is going to be cooler when you leave. That's where Golden Fez resides. Not sharing with all his heart nor throwing himself at you but simply existing.
As one part of a carefully thought out launch schedule for 'Compromise' - an exploration into personal tension, as opposed to relief (which is what most music offers) - Golden Fez develops a corresponding rationale behind each musical idea contained within his song.
You are not quickly drawn into this creation; you are studied by it. It was constructed at Choisez Studio, Canary Wharf, in partnership with collaborator Eugeniu Vinitchi and has a duality that mirrors the late night experience of being next to someone who is painfully shy, and then suddenly realises there has been no fire - only ashes.
Golden Fez is drawing from a family tree - although the artists have all faced their struggles through music or each artist is creating music that echoes their past. It's important to realize, Golden Fez may have been inspired by others; however, he has created his own musical style, that is based on darkness and emotion.
Gaining attention to your music is difficult to do, especially in the music industry. What Golden Fez has done, is he has created music that unintentionally guides some of the industry musicians to have growth within their own musical career.
He is providing a place for others to feel safe expressing their own experiences, while simultaneously being an artist. I don't believe he was initially attempting to do this; however, there are certain characteristics he possesses that makes him unique.
Through his music he has continued to give artists the chance to create, and grow past their personal limitations both artistically and positively as a person.
