Static, Survival, and the New State of WINACHI
Only after the noise has faded away can the true honesty be found. This is the time when all the Miles travelled, back stage noise, morning motels & no sleeping have been combined through adrenaline and poor choices. For WINACHI, State Of Mind has been created from this moment of realisation after you have survived your ordeal.
State Of Mind is the single that marks the start of a new chapter for Warrington's band. This new song has not been created with polished artificial perfection. The single is alive! It Breathes, it sweats, It has ashes under it's nails. Written during lockdown and after relentless touring throughout the UK, "Europe", & "USA". Liam Croker, the bands front man, wrote State Of Mind as a piece of personal inventory, mentally, physically, spiritually; after having pushed himself to his limits and was he still standing?
The tension within the music is alive. The groove is 100% WINACHI, but there is now a much sharper emotional edge to it now. Less funktastic swagger and more reflective. The legacy of Manchester's alternative scene is very much a part of this song with echoes of both Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses flowing through the song like smoke through a neon light. Loose, open rhythm, controlled chaos, beer-soaked memories meet filmic aspirations.
Croker and multi-instrumentalist Antony Egerton built the groundwork of WINACHI's record, with their base a result of their extensive focus on atmosphere, at WINACHI HQ in Warrington; Dave Pemberton contributed his talents by delivering his work on The Prodigy, Groove Armada, & Babyshambles, & has created a single with a mega, large-screen feel that is energetic, immersive, yet has stayed true to the intimacy of both the band's music and the band's meaning. A balance that is rare.
Perhaps this is one reason that State Of Mind resonates with listeners so quickly…there is no appearance of a band faking a struggle…just an appearance from individuals that lived through the struggle.
Visuals possess grit. The backing vocals of Christy Bellis are warm. The percussion from Inder Goldfinger has a pulse. All things indicate that every detail is more of a product of lived experience than manufactured.
For WINACHI, there is no additional release cycle… rather, it's another milestone…another rebirth through rhythms, static, concrete and ashes.
