Macrowave – Futuristic Ferocity, Engineered for Confrontation
Macrowave is a project that represents an intersection between precision and powerful impact. The project started off as a solo project by musician Kilian Ebel from Alsace with purely cold-frenetic-cinematic electronic compositions, but it became more of an expansive project with the addition of drummer Aurélien Knaub as the band's visual director. Collectively, Macrowave became a bass/keyboards and drums project, where both visual aspect and sonic aspect scale together.
The music of Macrowave continues to build mass and dimension in both a live (performance) and studio (recording) environment, thus the layering of percussion, rock-derived dynamics and carefully sculpted electronic drum sounds create both a sonic landscape that is immersive and confrontational. The duo draws their musical inspiration from the cinematic nature of the synthwave genre and the sonic intensity of metal music to explore subjects of evanescence, collapse and eternity through a dark, uncompromising sonic language.
After releasing their debut album Ultimatum and releasing several EPs, Macrowave performed live across France and Germany in front of a wide range of audiences. All of the concerts exhibit the convergence of ferocity found in rock with the precision of electronic music, which results in not just a concert, but rather an event in which the visuals and sounds work together as one narrative engine to create a futuristic, brutal and deeply cinematic experience for all the attendees.
“Imminent,” the first single from the album, is a menacing hybrid of dark synth and metal that builds with an unwavering sense of patience. The track creates excitement through its careful construction, using elements similar to Carpenter Brut or Jon Hopkins, but it is not a copy of either. The song was well received by the media, including Verdant, Metal Universe, Face B, and Trashocore.
Its follow-up, “Emergence,” as if preordained by the universe to further propel the idea, pushes the envelope even more. Through ascending synth-lines and driving drums, it uses imagery of the end-times and the violent release of energies that have long been suppressed from existence.
Now that Macrowave has gained some traction, they are ready to release their new EP, Imminent on January 23, 2026. Imminent will include both physical and digital versions along with initial tours throughout eastern France and Germany. The EP will feature three new tracks, one of which is titled “Shattered.”
This track will be slower and less aggressive than their previous material, allowing for a more spacious, atmospheric experience. The song will have a lullaby-like quality created by heavily processed, hypnotic arpeggios and pulsing electronic textures, while building an internal tension until the final act releases all that tension in a cathartic explosion—a moment of true rupture and discovery in the fragmented world of Macrowave.
In summary, Macrowave creates intensity with purpose; therefore, they do not play with intensity.
