Arabella Lucia Won't Let 'Unpretty' Stay Pretty

Her guitar-filled version of the song from TLC asks who made us hate the reflection that we see in the mirror and reveals that she will be releasing an album in November.

In the near future, most people can no longer identify their own face. This was already predicted by TLC back in the 90s, and now artist Arabella Lucia takes this prediction to another level.

The song "Unpretty" has never been an easy listening tune, and Arabella does not make it any easier. The track begins with loud percussion and a powerful bassline, and the guitar rhythm becomes slow because of the guitar solo that can say a lot of things which words cannot. The track has a nostalgic feeling, but this feeling is also aggressive.

In actuality, she is taking a different approach with the song. She is focusing on the internal perception of oneself rather than listening to what the world thinks. FaceTune, algorithms, other people's standards of prettiness come into the equation. The frustration of the generation can be heard in the music.

But there is more to the song than that. “Unpretty” also presents an introduction to her five-track EP which is coming out in November, and there is no easygoing escapism there. The first song “Hostage You Call Baby” is a true story about a woman who has eventually had enough after enduring years of humiliation. The song is written in the first-person voice, and it sounds increasingly creepy. There is an acoustic version that sounds raw and close to the listener.

Lucia, who is Armenian-Canadian and lives in London, can speak English, French and Armenian. She has already participated in the Alternative Escape event as well as Bludfest. She is currently in Eastcote Studios with Oskar Winberg, the Grammy winning producer of Coldplay and Yungblud albums, working on her first album.

Some tracks from her EPs have not been released yet. However, Lucia promises that they are not going to be polite.
