El Diablo: Where Even the Devil Burns for a Woman He Can't Own

The tension before something dangerous starts always appears with static, a hum in the building, the stench of beer on the concrete floor and the taste of ash in your throat.

With “El Diablo,” Charlie and the Moonshine lean into that tension as they provide their latest single and another part of the continuing journey of Avándaro Sessions. This song is what happens immediately following their debut album, The Quest, as the calling for adventure has played out and now, the Devil has been brought to his knees by a woman he can never have. This story is told as an unrequited love affair from the other side of the flames; it will be released on February 13, 2020; therefore, it will be an anti-Valentine’s Day manifesto written by smoke.

“El Diablo” was recorded live in Avándaro, which is still the home of Mexican rock and 70's counterculture, purposely bleeding. You hear the room, the strings scraping, the air space between the beating of the drums; Southern Rock grit colliding with cinematic Americana, blues choking the vocals, the way the heat of asphalt chokes a person. No polish; just a pulse.

There is an underlying honor in "El Diablo," beyond ashes and chaos; it explores – through the lens of both the Devil's love for a strong woman and his acceptance of it – how far a man will go for a woman. In this world dominated by technology and algorithms, Charlie and The Moonshine have taken risks in creating music with natural elements of sound – instruments, perspiration, and longings. The results are raw experiences, filled with energy and intensity.
